nABLEing All Learners in a BYOD Environment
Universal Design for Learning is a framework for designing flexible and personalized learning environments that account for the variability of all learners from the start. Technology can make the implementation of UDL easier by allowing educators to choose from a richer palette of tools to meet the needs of their diverse learners. In this session, you will learn about a number of free and low cost tools for providing access to the curriculum for all, starting with the universal design features that are already built into the iPads and Chromebooks in your classrooms. You will leave with a framework to help you select apps that engage and empower all learners through more transformative applications of mobile technology.
A Touch of Light: Engaging All Learners with Mobile Photography for the Classroom
Today’s mobile devices have cameras that rival the image quality of more expensive traditional cameras. Amid concerns about copyright and digital citizenship, students can use these devices to capture their own images for presentations and digital story telling projects. In this presentation, you will learn about a variety of apps for capturing, editing, and sharing photos taken with a mobile device, as well as tips and tricks for improving the quality of your mobile photography. Join Dr. Luis Perez, a legally blind photographer, as he shares his own personal workflow for processing photos taken with a mobile device, as well as a number of fun classroom applications for mobile photography.

Testimonials
Here is a comment from a participant in a two-day workshop I did at Zyed University in Dubai:
““The workshop was one of the most inspiring training sessions I have ever attended. Perez wanted to transform learning for all students because features that are commonly seen as assistive for learners with disabilities are features that may help all students. By the end of the session, I was enthusiastic to design materials that can transform the learning experience for all students.” March 2015.
Here is what one participant had to say after attending my Universally Design Textbooks for the iPad session at ISTE 2013:
“Absofreakinglutely Amazing! I usually meet at least one new hero every year and Luis Perez is absolutely the hero I have of this year. The work he did in just this 1 hour session has fundamentally changed my perspective on Accessibility!! Thank you Luis Perez.” June 2013.
Here is a recommendation I received after delivering a presentation at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah:
“I was fortunate to have Luis speak at a meeting for the blind and visually impaired at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, UT. His presentation was superb, not only is he entertaining and engaging, but also easy to follow! He showed how easy it was to locate accessibility features and played some amazing videos. From working in an industry that relies on videos to convey a message, I feel like he inspired so many others that day. Since he can understand the challenges of losing his sight and still be a photographer and make wonderful videos with Apple products, he gives hope to live a fuller life. A volunteer with RP came to hear Luis, and afterward told me he can’t wait to start using VoiceOver! It was a huge success.” April 5, 2012
